Frederick Charles Barr II, 41, of West Des Moines was arrested Friday on charges of intimidation-assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary.

A West Des Moines man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Friday in connection with a January incident in which he allegedly confronted a Des Moines man, woman and child with a handgun and discharged the weapon at their car.

Frederick Charles Barr II, 41, of 625 87th St., West Des Moines, was charged with intimidation-assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary.

The incident occurred Jan. 15 about 4 p.m. in the 6400 block of Galleria Drive in the Jordan Creek area of West Des Moines.

According to court records, Barr allegedly “forcibly removed” the male victim “from the vehicle before pointing a small black pistol at him.”

“After a short struggle” between the parties, Barr allegedly “took two shots with his pistol at the vehicle, which was occupied by” the female victim and her 2-year-old child.

Barr later “admitted to the confrontation but denied being in possession of a firearm or shooting a firearm,” according to court records. He “admitted that he owned a pistol matching the description provided by the victims and stated that it was sent in for repairs shortly after the incident.”

The officers recovered theĀ firearm from a retail gunsmith, and it allegedly “matched the exact description given by the victims,” according to court records.

A warrant for Barr’s arrest was ordered May 3 and served Sept. 16. Barr is held in the Polk County Jail on unrelated charges. He is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 23 in Dallas County District Court.
