A West Des Moines woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly threw a coin purse at her husband and injured his hand.
Marda Jean Volkamer,75, of 645 65th Place, West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.
The incident began about 7:15 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of 65th Place, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The officers made contact with the victim, who was “actively bleeding from the hand,” according to court records. The victim’s injury consisted of “a small laceration, bleeding and bruising to the right hand.”
The victim told the officers that “he was struck by a coin case that was thrown at him by” Volkamer, according to court records.
Volkamer “admitted to throwing the coin case,” according to court records.
Volkamer is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
