CARLISLE — Perry softball head coach Tina Kenney summed up Monday’s Raccoon River Conference against No. 4 Carlisle in a few simple words: “It just wasn’t our night.”

Perry (5-5, 1-4) committed five errors, leading to six of Carlisle’s seven runs as the Wildcats (8-5, 4-0) posted a 7-2 victory.

Emma Olejniczak limited the Wildcat offense to just two hits while walking four but could not overcome defensive miscues that kept rallies going and gave extra chances to a team too good to be given any leeway. Olejniczak finished with seven strikeouts in the loss.

Perry did not record a hit until Jo Diw singled in the top of the sixth with Perry trailing, 7-0. Diw swiped second base, but the Jayettes could not scratch across the run.

Rachel Kinney’s single and a walk to Sid Vancil started a Jayette spurt in the seventh. Maddie West reached on one of three Carlisle errors to load the bases, with Maddy Jans yanking a double down the left field line to score Kinney and Vancil, but that was all the offense the guests could manage in suffering the loss.

Perry hosts Greene County tonight and Bondurant-Farrar Wednesday before visiting Ballard Thursday.
