The Des Moines offices of the National Weather Service have issued a wind chill advisory for the Perry area to remain in effect from 3 a.m. Monday until noon Tuesday
The NWS predicts very cold wind chills that will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. Wind chills ranging from 15 below zero to 30 below zero are expected in central and portions of southern Iowa.
A wind chill advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves if you venture outdoors.
Sunday afternoon’s snowfall is forecast to continue Sunday evening. The NWS said the fast-moving pocket of snow will produce a widespread 1 to 2 inches of snow.
Winds will be from the south at 10 to 20 mph, which will permit visibility of about one
mile or less during periods of snow.
Roadways might become snow-covered and slippery, so the NWS urges travelers to use extra caution.
