A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Perry area from 4 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday by the National Weather Service (NWS) offices in Johnston, with 2-5 inches of wet, heavy snow and winds gusting to 35 mph forecast.

The NWS said low pressure in the southern Great Plains will spread rain into Iowa Thursday night, bringing rain that will change to snow in the predawn hours and continue through Friday.

Travel might become difficult at times, as slick roads and gusting winds will reduce visibility Friday.

Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory is in effect in Guthrie, Cass, Adair, Madison, Adams, Union and Taylor counties.

Along with Perry, cities in the advisory area include Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Corning, Creston, Bedford, Lenox and New Market.

Travelers are advised to slow down, use caution and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.

ThePerryNews.com will update this weather story as forecasts evolve.
