The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory for portions of central Iowa along the U.S. Interstate 80 corridor, including the Perry area, lasting from 4 a.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday.
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are forecast, with higher amounts north of U.S. Interstate 80. Some light glazing up to one-tenth of an inch of ice is also possible, the NWS said.
The mixed precipitation of snow, sleet and freezing rain will result in difficult travel conditions, particularly during the morning commute Wednesday. Motorists should expect reduced visibilities at times, especially during the heavier snowfall.
Slippery road conditions and reduced visibilities are very likely. Travelers are advised to use caution while driving. The latest road conditions for Iowa can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
Dallas County cities affected by the winter weather advisory include Adel, Booneville, Bouton, Dallas Center, Dawson, De Soto, Dexter, Granger, Linden, Minburn, Perry, Redfield, Van Meter, Waukee and Woodward.
