The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a winter weather advisory for the Perry area from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday, with 3-6 inches of snow forecast.
Strong winds will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow, and the patchy, blowing snow and slippery roads could significantly reduce visibility and impair travel.
Some of the heaviest snow is expected around the time of the morning commute on Thursday, the NWS said. Travelers should be prepared for slick roads and poor visibility during this time and allow extra time to reach destinations.
Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory is in effect in Black Hawk, Story, Marshall, Tama, Audubon, Guthrie, Polk and Jasper counties.
Along with Perry, cities under the winter weather advisory include Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Ames, Marshalltown, Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Gladbrook, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines and Newton.
