The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a winter weather advisory for the Perry area from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday as a cold front brings strong winds, blowing snow and low temperatures.

Snow showers are expected particularly in northern Iowa, with total snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph are forecast throughout the advisory area, producing blowing snow due to new and already existing snow cover.

Bitterly cold wind chills in the teens and 20s below zero are also expected.

Travelers should plan on slippery road conditions, especially in rural areas, where blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could
cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
