Ranked 12th in Class 4A, visiting Winterset steadily kept up the pressure Tuesday in recording a 9-0 win over Perry in Raccoon River Conference softball.
Perry (1-12, 0-7) played well at times and stranded 10 Huskies on base, but Winterset (8-6, 3-3) cashed in on four Perry errors to score five unearned runs in collecting the win.
An unearned run had the guests in front, 1-0, after two frames, with a Thea Banning home run helping spark a four-run third. Winterset added a single tally in the fifth and three in the seventh, with a Jena Young two-run home run the big blow.
Jayna Kenney allowed nine runs (four earned) on 12 hits and three walks. She finished with one strikeout.
Perry did not have a base runner until the fourth when Lydia Olejniczak reached on an error. A Kenney bunt followed, with Kennedy Tunink hitting a single. A line-drive double-play ended the rally.
Singles from Tunink and Macy Killmer and an infield error with Molly Lutmer batting (who had a fifth-inning single) loaded the bases. A pop out followed, then the game ended on a soft pop double play in the infield as the Jayettes were kept scoreless.
Banning allowed four hits and struck out seven to earn the win.
Young added a double to her home run, with Jessie Nicholson adding a single, a double and two RBIs. Bridget Stover had two hits, a double and two RBIs, with Ava Lowdon also swatting a double.
Perry travels to Woodward-Granger Thursday and will play their home finale Friday with a visit from Collins-Maxwell.
