WEBSTER CITY — Sophomore Brandon Worley did a little bit — make that a whole lot — of everything Wednesday to help guide Woodward-Granger to a 4-2 win over Webster City in non-conference baseball.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Worley yielded two runs on just four hits in going the distance, walking one and striking out 10 along the way. Not content with dominating on the mound, Worley finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a RBI, with courtesy runner Jack Grell scoring one of the Hawk runs.

W-G (1-1) jumped to a 3-0 lead with a single tally in the first inning and two more in the second. Webster City plated a run in the fourth to cut the cap to 3-1, but a sixth-inning score put the Hawks ahead 4-1. The hosts scratched across a run in their half of the sixth but could come no closer in suffering the loss.

Hunter Pifer was 2-for-2 from the ninth spot in the lineup, with Reese Jamison 2-for-4 while Jay Dorenkamp added a single and scored once. Bryce Achenbach and Nick Brummond also scored for the visitors, with Joe Rhodes and Cole Theisen each driving in one run.

W-G hosts AC/GC tonight and is then off until a Tuesday trip to Madrid and a Wednesday contest, at Principal Park in Des Moines, against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Game time on Sec Taylor Field is 11 a.m.
