WOODWARD — Up and down, hot and cold, off and on — name your antonym and it would likely find a place in the description of the first half of the season for the Woodward-Granger girls basketball team.

W-G’s 3-7 start has been loss/loss/win/loss, win/loss/loss/win and loss/loss. The Hawks are 1-5 in West Central Conference action, and the lack of a steady rhythm in the results is due largely to a lack of consistent play from game to game.

W-G has connected on only 28.1 percent of their shots, including a 25-of-100 rate on 3-pointers. The Hawks have hit 56.3 from the free throw line and average a solid 29.8 rebounds per game but their combined totals of 68 assists and 86 steals is only 10 more than the 14 turnovers the squad has committed.

Strong individual efforts have helped offset those numbers and led to the trio of wins, with at least two losses that, given a break or a good bounce, the Hawks might have turned into victories.

Senior Mary Hansen leads the team with 14.8 points per game and 64 total rebounds. She is shooting 11-of-35 (31.4 percent) on 3-pointers and 29-of-37 (78.4 percent) at the foul line while joining Riley Jamison in making 20 steals.

Jamison has 34 rebounds and 12 assists, with the senior guard shooting 12-of-44 (27.3 percent beyond the arc while averaging 7.8 points per game.

Seniors Maggi Mallon (4.3 ppg, 50 rebounds) and Kendra Husmann (4.3 ppg), along with junior Alyssa Bice (3.5 ppg, 13 assists) and sophomore Kayley Dresback (3.4 ppg, 20 assists and 15 steals).

W-G hosts Earlham Jan. 3 before visiting AC/GC Jan. 6 and West Central Valley Jan. 10 and entertaining Des Moines Christian Jan. 13.

All statistics exclude numbers from a 57-26 loss at Panorama Dec. 20, which are yet to be provided.
