
OGDEN — Two conference champions and three runner-up placings were generated by the Woodward-Granger wrestling team Saturday, lifting the Hawks to third place in the annual WCAC Tournament.
Van Meter/Earlham pinned down top honors with 220 points, with Interstate-35 edging W-G, 179-175, for second place. WCV was fourth at 133, AC/GC fifth at 123.5 and Pleasantville sixth at 112 while Panorama placed seventh at 93 and Ogden eighth at 45.
Top-ranked junior Cody Fisher won the 220-pound division with a pin and a major decision to move to 15-0 for the season. He is now 117-9 for his career.
Joining Fisher as WCAC champion was 170-pounder Cale Pritchett, who won a pair of decisions in earning the honor.
Colt Palmer was 2-1 with a pair of pinfall victories in finishing second at 132 pounds, with Gabe Yingst 1-1 with a decision in placing second at 160 while Joel Harney was second at 106 with a 1-1 mark, his win coming via pin.
Heavyweight Tyler Lawrenson (15-1 overall) lost for the first time this season, but bounced back with a win by decision and with a pin to place third while Aidan Honkomp was 3-1 at 113 with two decisions and a major decision in also placing third.
Jayden Dorenkamp (138) was 2-2 with a pin and a forfeit and Dustin Harney (145) 2-2 with a decision and a major decision as each finished fourth, with Matthew White fourth at 120 after a 1-2 record that included a victory by pin.
Devan Brown had two pins to offset two losses to finish fifth at 152 pounds, with Corbyn Atwell fifth at 126 after finished 1-2 with a win by decision.
Nathaniel Rosen was unable to come up with a win in three matches and finished sixth at 195, with the Hawks leaving the 182-pound weight class uncontested.
W-G will finish the 2018 portion of their schedule Tuesday with a visit to PCM.
