The Woodward Public Library will sponsor a North Dallas County Job Fair this Saturday at the Woodward-Granger High School gymnasium on the west side of the building.
The event will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with multiple businesses presenting available jobs that they are hiring for now. Several will be interviewing on site.
Food will be available on site from the Woodward Fire Department, who will be raising funds and letting people know about the different ways that they can join volunteer fire departments and serve their communities.
Anyone needing assistance with filling out an online application will find public computers and library staff at hand to assist at the Woodward Public Library at 118 S. Main St. Job seekers can also received help with finding information, including the Iowa Workforce.
The library will open until noon Saturday during the job fair.
“One of the things that we are hoping to help people become aware of is the realization of ‘hidden jobs,'” said Sandra L. Dickson, vice president of the Woodward Public Library Board of Trustees and coordinator of the North Dallas County Job Fair. “There are jobs at most businesses that we may not associate with that type of business. For instance, a healthcare facility needs nursing staff, of course, but they also need housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, activity department and receptionists. This allows them to hire people aged 16 and up to and past normal retirement age. Other businesses many times also have these ‘hidden jobs.'”
Dickson said the North Dallas County Job Fair is intended to help people to find out what is available, wages, benefits and other information about employment that was not known before.
“It will be a place with many businesses together in one spot, so the public can ‘shop’ for job information, investigate a change in careers or just explore the job market and the opportunities that are local and closer to home,” she said.
