
DES MOINES — An officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shot and killed a wanted person hiding under the deck of a Dakota City, Iowa, house Saturday afternoon.
According to a statement released by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), officers with the the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office and the DNR responded about 2:30 p.m. to the residence at 205 Fourth St. in Dakota City, a town of 805 people lying about 20 miles north of Fort Dodge.
Officers encountered a wanted person with a firearm hiding under the deck of the residence, according to the DCI statement. The hiding person reportedly fired the weapon into the air and then pointed it at officers, with the DNR officer fatally wounding the suspect. The victim has not been publicly identified pending notification of relatives.
A DCI investigation is ongoing, the statement said.
