Johnnie Carl Starry, 38, of Perry faces charges of domestic assault by impeding breathing, domestic assault, false imprisonment, obstruction of emergency communications and violation of a no-contact order Wednesday after a four-hour standoff with the Perry Police Department Wednesday morning.

To the editor:

I would like to correct several inaccurate statements made Wednesday by Virginia Porter, mother of Johnnie Starry, that were reported in ThePerryNews.com.

Contrary to her claims, Johnnie was not living with me, and I never provided him drugs of any kind. We have not lived together since June 2015.

Because of the continued domestic violence, the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) is involved with my children. Johnnie’s rights where removed Aug. 9, and the DHS is now using Porter’s statements as evidence to attempt to remove my rights.

I assure you that Johnnie was not living here, nor have I ever provided him any type of drugs. His mother’s statement is a direct attempt to attack me personally and professionally.

Saying he was living here will directly effect prior charges for June, when he attacked me with my children present. The statement about providing him drugs is an attempt to attack me professionally because I am a nurse.

If necessary, I will provide you with drug test results because I have taken many since June because of her accusations about drugs.

I know you are doing your job and publishing news, but these statements are being used to attack me in the most significant roles of my life and are untrue.

Kate Starry
