Sophia Dean Paz Rutherford, 28, of Perry was arrested Monday on charges of child endangerment, controlled substance violation, three counts of first-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Perry woman was arrested Monday morning after law enforcement officers allegedly found a sizeable quantity of meth in the home she shares with her young daughter.

Sophia Dean Paz Rutherford, 28, of 2951 Kading Road, Perry, was charged with child endangerment, controlled substance violation, three counts of first-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 10:30 a.m. Monday in the 2900 block of Kading Road, where officers of the Perry Police Department executed a search warrant in the residence where Paz Rutherford lives with her minor child.

According to court records, a search of the residence disclosed “a smoking device” with “burnt residue” as well as “multiple containers of white and brown crystalline substance” that were identified as methamphetamine, “THC cartridges,” a “green leafy substance” identified as marijuana and “psilocybin mushrooms.”

The search also disclosed two firearms, “$880 in petty cash” and “clear plastic baggies and digital scales,” according to court records.

The methamphetamine weighed 33.3 grams.

Paz Rutherford is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $104,300 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

  1. Kading . . . What a shocker! When will Perry and other communities learn that Kading Properties are a magnet for this type of criminal activity? They claim to have a strict screening process for tenants but if you look at crime reports from areas that have a Kading complex, you’ll see a large number of police activity calls.

  2. This feedback is cause for concern because we operate with a ZERO-TOLERANCE policy on illegal activity and lean on local law enforcement to protect our communities and our residents. That’s why we urge you to report suspected illegal activity directly to the local police. We work in close partnership with these local entities for the good of our residents.
