The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has received several reports of black ice that has formed across portions of central Iowa early Tuesday morning.
The combination of Monday night’s light snow last night melting as it reached the pavement and temperatures cooling into the upper 20s has brought about conditions that cause
pockets of ice to form, leading to slick road conditions.
“Expect these intermittent slick spots through the morning rush hour today,” the NWS said in a special statement. “Please drive carefully this morning as road conditions could quickly change from dry to icy.”
Along with Dallas County, areas with the potential for black ice include Humboldt, Wright, Franklin, Butler, Bremer, Sac, Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Hardin, Grundy, Black Hawk, Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Tama, Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello,
Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose and Davis counties.
Along with Perry, cities with the potential for black ice include Humboldt, Eagle Grove, Clarion, Belmond, Hampton, Parkersburg, Clarksville, Shell Rock, Greene, Aplington, Allison, Dumont, Waverly, Sac City, Lake View, Odebolt, Wall Lake, Schaller, Early, Rockwell City, Manson, Lake City, Pomeroy, Fort Dodge, Webster City, Iowa Falls, Eldora, Ackley, Grundy Center, Reinbeck, Conrad, Dike, Wellsburg, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Denison, Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, Ames, Marshalltown, Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Gladbrook, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, Osceola, Chariton, Albia, Ottumwa, Lamoni, Leon, Corydon, Seymour, Allerton, Humeston, Centerville and Bloomfield.
