Putting an end to months of suspense, the Iowa State Fair Board voted Wednesday to cancel this year’s fair.
Iowa State Fair Board President Dave Hoffman said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution for public safety in the face of the novel coronavirus global pandemic.
Offering a glimmer of hope to Iowa’s young livestock breeders, the fair board voted to explore the possibility of 4-H and FFA livestock shows in August.
The financial viability of this year’s fair was also doubtful. The Iowa State Fair was scheduled for Aug. 13-23.
