Families and students in the Perry Community School District (PCSD) with unique medical needs or who are otherwise uncomfortable attending traditional onsite learning during the COVID-19 pandemic are invited to attend one of three public meetings to be held this week in the Perry Performing Arts Center (PAC) to learn about the district’s online option.
At the meetings, parents will be able to learn details about distance learning and decide whether to enroll their children as onsite or online learners for the fall. Attendance is strongly encouraged. The meetings will be held:
- Monday, July 27 for parents of Perry High School students, 7 p.m. in the PAC
- Tuesday, July 28 for parents of Perry Middle School students, 7 p.m. in the PAC
- Wednesday, July 29 for parents of Perry Elementary School students, 7 p.m. in the PAC
The online Return to Learn (R2L) option will be the only topic of the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night meetings. All families are required to fill out the Online Learning Registration Form by Aug. 3.
The PCSD administration has provided parents with “a few things to consider about the Online Learning Plan.” According to the PCSD:
- This is a fluid document. As we all work through this COVID-19 journey, changes and improvements will need to be made. This is the beginning of the Online Learning Plan.
- Read the document carefully. We have outlined the key features for elementary, middle school and high school. Responsibilities for teachers and parents are spelled out.
- This will be a big decision as well as a big commitment from the student and families.
- This plan will be reviewed each month by the Perry School Board.
The PCSD onsite R2L Plan aims for 100% onsite instruction in the fall, a goal that meets the Iowa Department of Education (DOE) requirement that at least 50% of all instruction occur onsite, but the online option is open to families with special health or safety needs.
Las familias y los estudiantes en el Distrito Escolar de la Comunidad de Perry (PCSD) con necesidades médicas únicas o que se sienten incómodos asistiendo al aprendizaje tradicional en el sitio durante la pandemia COVID-19 están invitados a asistir a una de las tres reuniones públicas que se realizarán esta semana en las Artes Escénicas de Perry. Centro (PAC) para conocer la opción en línea del distrito.
