ADEL, Iowa — The Dallas County Sheriff’s office issued a statement Monday about the plane crash Sunday night near Black’s corner in central Dallas County.

The sheriff’s statement said the plane was a small, ultralight airplane and not a crop duster, as indicated at the time of the crash on public safety radio traffic.

Ultralight aircraft are lightweight, recreational aircraft that typically do not require the operator to have a pilot’s license.

The pilot, Jerald Deimerly of Indianola, was uninjured in the crash, which occurred about 7:15 p.m. at the Husband Field Airport in Dallas Center, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Iowa Highway 44.

The plane crashed while attempting Deimerly was attempting to land, the sheriff’s statement said.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, the statement said.

Responding along with the Dallas County Sheriff’s office were the Adel Police Department, Adel volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS.
