To the editor:

When we need a doctor for a specialized illness, we see a specialist, one who fully understands our needs.

The same applies to our state auditor. As an experienced CPA, Mary Moisman’s performance, leadership and track record have been outstanding. She identified close to $14 million of misused taxpayers dollars and issued more than 100 fraud investigation reports.

Mary separates politics from her work and works for all of us, an independent with no regard to political affiliations. Her job is to find the wrongdoings and then a resource to the proper agency to decide the remedy, resolution or legal action needed.

Her opponent, Rob Sand, in his role as assistant attorney general, has been a watchdog for Iowans and prosecuted many corruption and financial malfeasance cases. However, he is not a CPA. The state auditor’s job is strictly auditing and finding wrongdoing or mistakes.

Mary is the qualified candidate in this election, one with a proven record of performance, reliability, accuracy, experience, no political bias and leadership in her office as state auditor.

The state auditor’s office has been occupied by a CPA firm for the last 40 years. This status saves money, reducing the need to outsource financial statement audits to a private CPA firm at an additional cost to the taxpayers.

Mr. Sand is not a CPA.

As a taxpayer, the choice should be clear. Politics aside, a qualified CPA with a track record is Iowa’s best choice for keeping the state auditor’s office cost effective.

Elect Mary Moisman as Iowa State Auditor. Experience and integrity count.

  1. This voter’s letter was very well written and well thought out. The author is an astute writer that shows concern for this office and demonstrates it with the reasoning applied. He makes the case for voting for Ms. Mosiman, an acknowledged CPA, as the best qualified candidate to secure this office. I am convinced that he is right, and I shall vote for Mary Mosiman for auditor. ~ Phillip J Condo, West Des Moines Iowa

  2. Iowa law does not require the State Auditor to be a CPA. If Iowans wanted this to be the case, it would be in the Iowa Code. Also, the State Auditor personally conducts few if any audits themselves, so no need to be a CPA. Mosiman has also shown her partisan colors by not auditing Iowa’s privatized Medicaid Program, which has been a financial disaster from the beginning! I believe that even the most partisan Republican would like to have the facts as to the financial condition of this program. I have every confidence that Rob Sand, if elected, will get to the bottom of the financial disaster the privatized Medicaid program is, and not ignore it like the current State Auditor is!
