Enjoy biking the Raccoon River Valley Trail? Love bacon?

If so, the June 20 Bacoon Ride Too: A Second Helpin’ is just the thing.

A 72-mile route that starts and ends in Waukee, the Bacoon Ride will visit numerous towns and offers cyclists a wide variety of bacon-themed stops, lunches and drink specials at establishments along the way.

The event is a production of RAGBRAI, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. All proceeds from registration fees will benefit the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, RAGBRAI’s Dream Team and an assortment of Iowa charities.

Registered riders will receive a Passpork punch card that entitles each person to bacon snacks and samples at nine different official bacon stops along the route.

The Bacoon Ride registration includes:

  • Numerous bacon stops featuring bacon snacks and samples throughout the day (Riders will receive 9 bacon items at these bacon stops throughout the ride),
  • bacon-themed lunch,
  • A commemorative Passpork (punch card for your bacon treats),
  • Awesome drink specials at numerous bacon party stops (including bacon-themed drinks)
  • Custom BacooN Ride Too black steel pint
  • Commemorative Bacoon Ride T-shirt
  • Ride support/mechanics

There will be no on-site registration. The first 3,000 riders who register will receive a Bacoon Ride steel pint and T-shirt.  Riders can use this steel pint for drink specials along the ride at the numerous bacon stops along the way.

  1. I’m not sure about other good stopping spots, but the ride should have a bacon eating stop just south of Dallas Center at the confinement beside the trail. With any luck there will be a south breeze that day to remind everyone of the poor ag practices currently being used to supply the bacon.
