An Adel man was arrested Saturday after allegedly beating and strangling an Adel female and preventing her leaving the house.
Robert Connor Carstensen, 37, of Adel was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding blood/air flow and false imprisonment.
The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, when officers of the Adel Police Department were notified that the victim checked into Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines for “significant injuries on and about her face and neck,” according to court records.
The officers responded, and the victim told the officers that Carstensen allegedly “hit her multiple times and placed her in a headlock, making her unable to properly breath,” according to court records.
The victim also said that Carestensen allegedly “took her phone and keys and would not allow her to leave the residence,” according to court records.
Carstensen is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $7,500 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 2 in Dallas County District Court.
Carstensen was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 2010 in Black Hawk County District Court.
