An Adel man was arrested Friday for the seventh time for driving while barred.

Thomas Edward “Opie” Mastin, 39, of 911 Bryan St., Adel, was charged with driving while barred.

The incident began about 4 p.m. Friday when an officer of the Adel Police Department observed a vehicle with four occupants traveling in the 500 block of S. 10th Street in Adel.

A records check confirmed the identity of the driver as Mastin and the status of his driver’s license as barred.

The officer followed the vehicle to Mastin’s Bryan Street residence, where Mastin was taken into custody.

He was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to his release.

Mastin was convicted of driving while barred-habitual offender in 2007 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of driving while barred in 2015, 2016 and 2018 in Polk County District Court and for driving while barred in 2015 in Dallas County District Court. He currently faces a charge of driving while barred in Polk County District Court in connection with a March 2020 incident.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
