Adel man arrested Sunday as too drunk for childcare

An Adel man was arrested Sunday evening for allegedly being too drunk to safely care for a 4-year-old.

Jonathan Rex Mahoney, 42, of 1725 Figg Dr., Adel, was charged with two counts of child endangerment and interference with official acts.

The incident about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Figg Drive, where officers of the Adel Police Department determined that Mahoney “had control over his 4-year-old daughter” and “was the only adult home with the child and was intoxicated to the point where he created a substantial risk to the child,” according to court records.

Mahoney, who had a blood alcohol content of .350, allegedly presented to the officers with “slurred speech,” and he “could not balance” and “was confused, agitated, had bloodshot, watery eyes” and a “strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath,” according to court records.

When the officers  tried to take Mahoney into custody, he allegedly “did tense his body and pull away from officers repeatedly,” according to court records.

Mahoney was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to his release on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for arraignment April 28 in Dallas County District Court.
