An Adel man was arrested Wednesday night after crashing a motorcycle while trying to outrun law enforcement and then trying to flee the crash scene on foot.
Zachary Johnson, 21, of Adel was arrested June 13 about 7:45 p.m. by a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff in an incident that began in the 22000 block of Old Highway 6 when the deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop at 7:36 p.m.
Johnson did not stop the motorcycle but accelerated away from the deputy, who pursued in a patrol vehicle.
According to a statement from the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Johnson continued driving westward on Old Highway 6 and then northward on K Avenue. From K Avenue, the motorcycle turned westward on 280th Street, which changes from a paved surface to gravel at El Paso Avenue near Redfield.
Johnson continued westward on the gravel portion of 280th Street before turning northward on D Avenue and losing control of the motorcycle shortly afterward at about 7:42 p.m.
The driver then fled the crash scene on foot. He was located and arrested a short time later, according to the law enforcement statement.
Johnson was not injured in the crash or arrest.
He was booked into the Dallas County Jail and faces charges of eluding, operation without registration, no insurance, speeding, driving under suspension and two counts of failure to obey a stop sign.
The motorcycle was impounded, and this investigation is ongoing, the Dallas County Sheriff’s office said. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s office assisted in this incident.
