Ahmir ‘Smiley’ Jolliff of Perry

It breaks our hearts to announce the death of Ahmir “Smiley” Jolliff, who departed this world on Jan. 4, 2024.

Visitation for Ahmir will be Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel at 1721 Park St. in Perry from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., with the family present from 4-7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 1312 Third St. in Perry, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Overflow seating will be available at the First Christian Church across the street from St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Born in Chicago to Zavadyah Fouch and Erica Jolliff, Ahmir brought warmth and joy into the lives of those around him from the moment he entered this world.

Ahmir was a vibrant soul, known for his infectious smile and boundless energy. His love for life was reflected in his diverse array of hobbies, including participating in the choir and band, playing soccer and immersing himself in the world of video games. Always on the move, Ahmir refused to be tied down, seeking adventure and excitement in every aspect of his life.

Among his many passions, Ahmir had a special fondness for board games and cherished the opportunity to connect with others. His heartwarming visits to the elderly showcased his compassion and the genuine connections he valued with people of all ages.

Ahmir was not just a bright light; he was a steadfast defender of justice. He stood up against bullies, championing those who needed a voice and ensuring that kindness prevailed.

Ahmir’s impact reached far beyond his immediate circles. His love for community and dedication to uplifting those around him left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but the memories of his infectious laughter, compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In his relatively short time with us, Ahmir managed to touch the lives of countless individuals, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion and advocacy for those in need. As we say our farewells, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and strive to carry on his legacy of kindness, inclusivity and unwavering determination to make the world a brighter place.

Ahmir is survived by his mother, Erica (Rucum); siblings, Syniyah, Kheiyah, Shaiyah and Princess; biological father, Zavadyah; grandmother, Rofah Ahfrah; Cynthia Jolliff; uncles, Nahvee, Ben, Deantre and Earl; aunts, Maletsah and Malkah; special cousins, Elijah and Shalave; and many others.

He is preceded by his cousin, Malakai.

Rest in peace, dear Ahmir. Your smile will forever be etched in our hearts.

  1. I did not know him, but that does not matter. This little soul will be missed in this world, not only for those he deeply touched during his short time here, but for those that will never experience his goodness and light. Rest in love “Smiley”, may the family find some semblance of peace in the most unimaginably tragic circumstances.
