Altoona man gets third meth arrest in eight months

Alex Douglas Meyer, 35, of Altoona was arrested Monday on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, two counts of control of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An Altoona man is in the Dallas County Jail Monday after he was arrested for the third time in eight months on drug charges.

Alex Douglas Meyer, 35, of Altoona was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, two counts of control of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 1:45 a.m. Monday near the 110 mile marker of eastbound U.S. Interstate 80 in De Soto, where a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff stopped a 2016 Dodge Dart for a registration violation.

According to court records, “During the course of the stop a K9 was deployed and indicated to the odor of narcotics.”

A search of the vehicle in which Meyer was a passenger disclosed “two firearms in possession of” Meyer, “who is a convicted felon,” according to court records.

The vehicle search also disclosed “drug paraphernalia in the form of a methamphetamine pipe and scale,” and a search of Meyer’s person disclosed “two bags of methamphetamine, which field tested positive,” according to court records.

Meyer is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 24 in Dallas County District Court.

Meyer was arrested in September 2021 in Ankeny on charges of controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp. The case is pending in Polk County District Court. He was arrested in July 2021 in Van Meter on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, unlawful possession of prescription drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, eluding, reckless driving, driving while license denied, suspended, cancelled or revoked and trespass. The case is pending in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of intimidation with a dangerous weapon in 2019 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
