Hometown Heritage is seeking families to help lay the foundation for an upcoming event.

Families are invited to come to the Carnegie Library Museum Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. and to bring along at least one photo of a great-great-great-grandparent. Families can share a few facts about their ancient ancestor and be photographed for a family portrait.

Today’s photo, combined with yesterday’s ancestor portrait, will be on display at the Carnegie Library Museum from the end of October through mid-November.

“The purpose of the ‘Our Great Great Great Grands’ exhibit is to illustrate that all of our ancestors in America were immigrants,” said Hometown Heritage Events Coordinator Karol Crosbie.

The “Our Great Great Great Grands” exhibit is part of the Becoming American documentary film series, which has offered the Perry community a chance to learn about and discuss immigration in America.

The Carnegie event and exhibit is co-sponsored by the Perry Public Library. All ages are invited, and young children and grandparents are especially encouraged to attend.

The Becoming American series is co-sponsored by Hometown Heritage, City Lore, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Drake University, the Perry Community School District and other local sponsors.

As a thank you for participating, families will be given their family photos at the conclusion of the exhibit in November.
