Betty Ann Lenz, 79, of Marshall, Mo., died Jan. 5, 2017, at the Living Center in Marshall.

A celebration of life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Glenwood, Iowa.

Betty was born March 5, 1937, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of the late Arch L. and Euphema M. (Barbee) Colwell.

On Sept. 4, 1955, in Glenwood, Betty married Jack Lenz Jr.

She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Betty was a professional quilter and won national and state competitions in places such as Texas, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Missouri and Minnesota. She was active in local quilt and crazy quilt organizations and taught others the skill as well.

Betty enjoyed being involved in community activities in the numerous places where she and Jack lived and raised their children.

She also had a fondness for animals, having raised collies, ridden horses and spoiled many, many, many cats.

In addition to her husband, Jack, Betty is survived by three sons, Alan (Kathy) Lenz and John (Rose) Lenz, both of Perry, Iowa, David (Dawn) Lenz of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda) Lenz of Breckenridge, Colo., Sarah (Cody) Schiffer of Waukee, Alison (Ray) Miles of Las Cruces, N.M., Melanie (Calvin) Smith of Perry, Nate Lenz of Las Cruces, N.M., Madison (Max) Chelberg  of Minneapolis, Minn., and Sydney Lenz of Duluth, Minn.; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Jean (Forrest) Mayberry of Glenwood.
