Blood Bath

Within the coming months an avalanche of “pick me”
Political ads will fill the digital world.
Parties and candidates will equate passion with truth.
In heated debates reason will become disengaged.

Protesters with clenched fist, raised still arm,
Unbowed head and strident pace meant to
Signify inevitable victory.
Partisan “anger huggers” establish
An “outraged identity.”

Media drawn like fireflies to demonstrations
Lap up the symbolic blood bath frenzy and
Smear it on all who listen and watch.
Anonymous backers’ benefits barely acknowledged,
Their powerful undertow guides its direction.
