A Lake Robbins Ballroom favorite, Jeff Brandt and Galaxy, performed a wide variety of songs from the band’s large repertoire Saturday night for about 150 people.

Brandt’s strong tenor was in fine form on pop standards such as Paul Anka’s “My Way” and Lionel Richie’s “Hello,” and he ranged from sublime gospel heights with “How Great Thou Art” to the earthier sentiments of “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.”

Gina Brandt gave a powerful rendition of the 1983 Donna Summer anthem of female labor, “She Works Hard for the Money.”

Dallas County diners and dancers will also want to note that Lake Robbins will host the 100-year celebration of the Sugar Grove Sunshine 4-H Club Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24 with dancing and family fun from 7-11 p.m. each night. Julie Lee and Her White Rose Band will perform.

Saturday afternoon from 1-5 p.m. will also feature an open house at Lake Robbins, with exhibitions of Sugar Grove Sunshine 4-H history and presentations and slide shows by club members, plus many other fun surprises.

Admission to the open house is free. Tickets to the evening entertainment is $12 for one night or $20 for both Friday and Saturday. Food will be available both evenings.

Julie Lee and Her White Rose Band hail from Fargo, N.D., and play a variety of musical styles, from country and western to polka and big band.
