ADEL, Iowa — The Adel Family Aquatic Center has closed after discovering broken glass in the pool and on the decking.
“We do not know where the glass originated,” the family entertainment venue said Wednesday in a Facebook post. “We do not allow glass into the aquatic center, nor do we sell any items in the concession stand in glass. We are guessing that someone came in overnight.”
They said a number of shards were retrieved from the pool, causing the complete shut down “for the safety of our patrons.”
In accord with the Model Aquatic Health Code supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the aquatic center is conducting a complete draining of the facility, taking three to five days, followed by an intensive clean.
The pool will then be refilled over another three to five days and chemically balanced over two to three days. Reopening will only occur once the water quality passes a State Hygienic Laboratory test, which might also take several days.
“As you can see, it is a process that takes quite a long time depending on the conditions,” the center said on Facebook. “It could take longer. A reopening plan is to be determined.”
Anyone with knowledge of the vandalism or who witnessed anything suspicious is asked to call the Adel Family Aquatic Center at 515-993-4525.
Give it a rest, people. If you do not want to leave your house, then stay in it. This is a stupid way to demonstrate your upset at the center reopening to the public. This is not “protesting” nor “activism,” and please do not claim it is.
