Three local United Methodist Church congregations held a special joint worship service Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Perry in order to celebrate two new pastoral appointments.

Rev. Paul I. Burrow was welcomed into the role of senior pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Perry, the Fairview Methodist Church in rural Perry and the Rippey United Methodist Church after serving as assistant pastor for six years.

Burrow replaces the former senior pastor, Dr. Enna Antunez, who was recently appointed to the Amor y Paz congregation in Des Moines and located near Grand View University. Antunez served five years among Perry’s congregants.

Stepping into Burrow’s shoes as assistant pastor is Rev. Rosa Panchas-Soto, who begins her first year as half-time pastor of the Latino service. A native of Peru, Panchas-Soto has previously done pastoral work with Burrow around central Iowa. Both appointments were made by Methodist Bishop Julius Trimble, based in Des Moines.

After the welcome service, a special Charge Conference was held to approve the pastors’ salaries, followed by a parish-wide potluck to honor Burrow’s and Panchas-Soto’s appointments.

The Perry First United Methodist Church gathers for worship services Sundays at 9:45 a.m, with Spanish services at 11:30 a.m. and evening services at 6 p.m. The Fairview United Methodist Church holds services Sundays at 8:30 a.m., and the Rippey United Methodist Church meets Sundays at 11 a.m.
