Carolyn Guay, 81, of Perry passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Carolyn Dee Wright was born Oct. 13, 1942, to Floyd Sansom and Edna “Irene” (Ballantyne) Wright in Burlington, Iowa.

She attended school in Lamoni, graduating from Lamoni High School. She went on to attend Graceland College and Iowa State University, receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

Carolyn married Louis Henri Guay on July 16, 1965, in Ames, Iowa.

Carolyn taught in the Perry Community School District as an art and reading teacher for her entire career. She taught many students over the years and enjoyed each and every one of them.

Carolyn grew up in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, today the Community of Christ, and lived true to her Restorationist beliefs her whole life. She applied her artistic skills broadly — in sculpting, painting, various needlecrafts, drawing tessellations, quilling and more. She also enjoyed gardening and was sure to keep the birds fed year-round.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Damien (Shem) Aronofsky; and grandchildren, Adelaide and Amelia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; and parents, Floyd and Irene Wright.

A funeral service for Carolyn will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6 at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel, with visitation taking place one hour prior beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni at 12 p.m., Monday, July 8.
