Calling all U.S. Marines and U.S. Marine supporters!
Throughout the world on Nov. 10, Marines celebrate the birth of their Corps — the most loyal, feared, revered and professional fighting force the world has ever seen.
This year the birthday tradition is being brought to Perry. We may not be as lean or as mean as we once were, but we are still Marines and want to celebrate the birth of our beloved Corps.
The U.S. Marine Corps birthday ceremony includes a cake-cutting ceremony, a reading from the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and an opportunity to bond as brothers. We invite you to come celebrate the Marine Corps and support a good cause at the Proletariat in downtown Perry.
“I love Marines, and I’m happy to be able to host their celebration,” said Jeremy Mahler, owner of the Proletariat.
On Monday, Sept. 28 2020, Mike “DiMarco” Hoversten was inspecting a home that had been damaged by the Derecho windstorm when he fell and broke his back. As an independent insurance adjuster, he did not have medical insurance and is now heavily indebted.
“DiMarco” has suffered traumatic injuries but is making a recovery. As Marines we are trained to never leave a Marine behind, and his brothers in Des Moines and Perry will use the U.S. Marine Corps Birthday celebrations to raise funds for him.
Plan to attend the U.S. Marine Corps birthday celebration Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Proletariat, 1213 Second St. The Marine Roll Call will be conducted from 6-7 p.m. and the Marine Corp birthday celebration from 7-9 p.m.
