RIPPEY — For more than six decades, the Old Rippey Cemetery has been the host of Memorial Day observances, and the continuity continued Monday as a large crowd gathered to honor those slain in the service of our country.
Program leader Mary Weaver offered opening remarks, with Washington Township Clerk Jean Borgeson reading “In Flanders Field.”
Reverand Paul Burrow, Pastor of the Perry, Rippey and Fairview United Methodist Church, offered a message on sacrifice, with Beverly Derry laying a wreath at the memorial obelisk.
Kinkead-Martin American Legion Post 583 (Rippey) provided the Color Guard, who fired a ceremonial salute.
Those gathered were then invited to a fellowship luncheon at the Rippey United Methodist Church.
Greene County’s Washington Township cemeteries are administered by trustees Mary Hick, Roger Norgren, Tod Contner and Borgeson.
