City marks sixth annual Employee Safety and Appreciation Day

About 60 workers and elected officials for the city of Perry gathered Wednesday at the Perry Fire Department for the sixth annual Employee Safety and Appreciation Day.

The program began at 10:30 a.m., with opening remarks from first-term Perry Mayor John Andorf, who thanked the gathered workers for their devotion and professionalism.

Ten city workers and elected officials received certificates of appreciation for their service to the Perry public. Certificates were presented to:

  • Frank Eiteman, 35 years
  • Joel Eiteman, 25 years
  • Susan K. Moorhead, 20 years
  • Misty M. Von Behren, 15 years
  • Michael B. Peterson, 10 years
  • Matthew R. Halling, 10 years
  • John D. Andorf, five years
  • Sgt. Matthew A. Aswegan, five years
  • Bobby D. Harlan, five years
  • Douglas E. Bonjour, five years

City Finance Director Susie Moorhead, a 20-year veteran of the Perry City Hall, reviewed the year’s insurance claims, and Skip Lowe of Bernie Lowe and Associates, the city’s insurance underwriter, introduced the new Doctor on Demand smart phone app.

Colette Klier, risk analysis specialist with the Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP), presented a fascinating discussion of cybersecurity and the steps city workers can take to prevent security breaches.

Lunch was catered by the El Tren. Local businesses sponsored raffle items, including several drones, which lucky workers won.
