Creston man charged with murder in Madison County gun death

Gerald Ray Parker, 42, of Creston was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with a July 21 shooting death in southwest Madison County.

The Madison County Sheriff’s office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are pursuing a death investigation in rural Madison County.

WINTERSET, Iowa — The Madison County Sheriff’s office arrested a suspect Wednesday in connection with the July 21 shooting death in southwest Madison County.

Gerald Ray Parker, 42, of Creston was charged with one count of first-degree murder.

Jonathan Michael Hoffman, 39, Des Moines was found shot to death July 21 at the intersection of Grandview Trail and Macksburg Road in southwest Madison County, where a delivery driver found him face down in the intersection.

Parker is held in the Madison County Jail.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Madison County Sheriff’s office in the ongoing investigation.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
