Dallas County Republicans announce summer local, metro events

The Dallas County GOP has announced a series of summer events in Dallas County and at various metro venues.

The America First Dinner with U.S. President Donald J. Trump is set for Tuesday, June 11 at the Hy-Vee Conference Center in West Des Moines. The $500 tickets are sold out, but there are a limited number of tickets are still available at the $250 level, according to the Dallas County GOP.

U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst will host Joni’s Roast and Ride Saturday, June 15, with special guest Nikki Haley, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and South Carolina governor. The ride honors military veterans and patriots, the Dallas County GOP said. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the program starts at 11 a.m. at the Big Barn Harley-Davidson, 81 N.W. 49th Place in Des Moines, and the family-friendly pork roast opens its doors at 11:30 a.m., with the program at 1 p.m. at the Central Iowa Expo in Boone.

The monthly meeting of the Capitol Region Republican Women will welcome former U.S. Rep. David Young Thursday, June 20 at 6 p.m. at the Tavern Pizza and Pasta Grill, 1755 50th St. in West Des Moines. Tickets are $15 at the door and include a meal of pizza, chicken and a salad buffet. RSVP to iowagloria@gmail.com.

The Iowa Federation of Republican Women will host the Iowa Suffrage Centennial Gala Saturday, June 22 at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates in Des Moines. The program will review the history of the suffrage movement in Iowa. Period costumes are invited but not required. Rebecca Kleefisch, former Wisconsin lieutenant governor and executive director of the National Suffrage Centennial Commission, will participate and expects to bring a “surprise” guest from the White House, the Dallas County GOP said.

The Dallas County GOP will host its annual pork tenderloin and potluck picnic Thursday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at Evans Park in Adel. The Dallas County GOP Central Committee will grill Iowa pork tenderloins and provide the buns. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish to share.

Later in the summer, the Dallas County GOP will host the Party Like a Patriot barbecue fundraiser at the new Fred Maytag II Scout Center in Des Moines. The Aug. 8 events will feature barbecue by Fireside Grill Catering, music by guitarist Jake Doty and a Pie Palooza auction.Confirmed speakers include U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pates.
