Dallas County Hospital CEO Angela Mortoza welcomed visitors Tuesday afternoon to an open house in celebration of the hospital’s new Wellness Education Center.

Tours were available during the two-hour open house, and Mortoza briefly outlined the purpose of the Wellness Education Center on the second floor atrium’s west side. The center is wired as a virtual smart room, allowing both for internal educational programming, such as staff training.

Mortoza thanked the organizations making the expansion possible, including donors the Wiese Foundation, Prairie Meadows and the Bock Family Foundation, architects Shive Hattery of West Des Moines and contractors Badding Construction of Carroll.

The project came in on budget and on schedule, she said.

Mortoza said developing the hospital’s upper-atrium level will help to accommodate DCH’s growing role as an information provider.

The upper atrium is occupied on its east side by Senior Life Solutions, a company offering an intensive, outpatient group counseling program for individuals over age 65. The service provider helps people deal with emotional or behavioral issues often related to aging.

Senior Life Solutions has three full-time staff members in their DCH offices. They will begin seeing clients June 22.

The Walk with Ease program and other programs of the Wise and Well group will continue as planned.
