Phillip Andrew Dolezal, 21, of Dexter was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree robbery and on Dallas County warrants for failure to appear on original charges of third-degree theft and fourth-degree theft and for failure to appear on an original charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Dexter man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly robbing the Casey’s two blocks from his house.

Phillip Andrew Dolezal, 21, of 605 State St., Dexter, was charged with second-degree robbery and also arrested on Dallas County warrants for failure to appear on original charges of third-degree theft and fourth-degree theft and for failure to appear on an original charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 8:15 p.m., when the Dallas County Sheriff’s office communications center received a 911 call from an employee at the Casey’s Store at 803 State St. in Dexter, reporting “that the store had been robbed and a suspect had left the store running on foot,” according to a statement from the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.

The caller said the robber “showed a note indicating that he had a gun” but did not brandish a firearm during the alleged robbery.

A manhunt ensured. With assistance from an Iowa State Patrol K-9 team, the Dallas County Sheriff’s office tracked the suspect to the residence at 605 State St. in Dexter. A search warrant was ordered and executed, and evidence related to the robbery was located and seized, according to the sheriff’s office statement.

“I am continually amazed by the hard work and effort our Deputies put in, day in and day out,” said Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante. “This case is a great example of their efforts. It’s also so beneficial to have a strong partnership with the Iowa State Patrol and their K-9s. They did a great job helping us out.”

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s office and Adair County Sheriff’s office also assisted in the manhunt.

Dolezal is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 4 in Dallas County District Court.
