Under the umbrella of Dallas County Public Health is your Environmental Health Department. Their office is located at the Human Service Campus north of Adel, though you will find the department’s staff members in many places as they perform their duties.

The Environmental Health Department is a critical public health partner offering programs and services to support your family’s well-being.

Here’s a sampling of of the department’s many services:

  • Radon and lead testing for homes and other buildings, such as daycares and churches.
  • Private well testing to ensure your water is safe to drink.
  • Inspection of and issuing permits for private septic systems.
  • Swimming pool inspection to ensure safety for the public. This includes city pools as well as the many motel pools in the busy Jordan Creek corridor.
  • Inspection of tattoo shops and tanning facilities.
  • Oversight of public drop-off points for recycling and collection sites for household hazardous waste.
  • Follow up of animal bites for human rabies exposure, including, dogs, bats, raccoons and other animals and enforcement of codes regarding infestations of pests, such as bed bugs.
  • Inspection of nuisance properties and enforcement of codes regarding repair or demolition.
