Doris Brown, 89, of Rippey passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rippey United Methodist Church in Rippey. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4 from 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be at the Rippey Cemetery in Rippey.

Memorials will be given to the Rippey United Methodist Church or HCI Care Services and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Doris Irene Brown was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Rippey, Iowa, to Glen Franklin and Alice Irene (Drake) Grow.

She attended grade school in Grand Junction and Beaver and graduated from Rippey Consolidated School with the class of 1946.

Doris was united in marriage to Gerald LaVerne Brown at the Rippey United Methodist Church Sept. 25, 1949.

In her early years, she worked at the telephone office in Rippey and assisted at Overman’s Beauty Shop. However, for most of her life she helped Gerald on the farm and was a farm wife.

She was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and Rebekahs.

Doris’ greatest joy was taking care of kids. Her second-greatest joy was mowing grass, shoveling snow and reading.

In death Doris rejoins her husband, Gerald LaVerne Brown; parents, Glen and Alice Grow; great-grandson, Alex Brown Behrends; and a brother, Donald Grow.

Left to cherish Doris’s memory are her sons, Ron (Kathy) Brown of Rippey and Rick (Sue) Brown of Rippey; grandchildren, Angela (Kevin) Brown-Behrends of Phoenix, Ariz., Ryan Brown of Jefferson, Ben (Mandy) Brown of Des Moines, Callie Sublete of Ames, Jim (Jenny) Brown of Sioux City and Josh (Katie) Brown of O’Fallon, Mo.; 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Cleo (Don) Ison of Venice, Fla.; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
