Doug Wood ate his last supper of the 2020 church-dinner season March 11 at the Heartland Church of Christ in Perry.

The last supper at the Heartland Church of Christ consisted of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, a Rice Krispy treat and lemonade and water.

Hello again, dinner fans. After my last story, I saw that I left off a dinner. This was the monthly free dinner held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Heartland Church of Christ. This was held March 11.

I do not believe that these have been held since then what with all of the social isolation going on.

I arrived at this dinner kind of late. I had to stay at work a little longer than usual. This time they served spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drinks.

I had a good visit with the Pastor Terry Carmichael. I have known Terry for years through the Perry Kiwanis Club. We always have a good visit.

Since that time, there have been no dinners. I really do not think that there will be any ice cream socials or dinners until next year. There are no signs of change in this area.

Some businesses have opened up with particular restrictions. Many churches still do not hold services in their buildings. Back home in Vinton, they are starting this next week but with no singing of hymns and no congregational response. Also seating will have to be separated by six feet.

My mon and dad sit in the same pew but have not been within six feet of each other for years. They still sit like my siblings and myself did when we were little. My mother brings a ton of stuff with her to church. These precautions being because of the chance of the virus being transmitted by droplets, which is why face masks are such a big deal.

I see that the new Heartland Church of Christ building is coming along nicely. The current church building is for sale. I will miss the close quarters of the current church basement. It has an old-fashioned feel that makes me think of the church that I was raised in and my family still attends to this day. I am sure that the new church will be much more user friendly.

I have other story ideas. Let me see what I can come up with to help fill these digital pages of the ThePerryNews.com.
