Eddie Diaz receives DMACC Distinguished Service Award

Eddie Diaz of Perry, director of the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy, recently received the DMACC Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the institution and the community.

Eddie Diaz of Perry, director of the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy, recently received the DMACC Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the institution and the community, the school announced Wednesday.

Diaz’s career has spanned from military service to educational leadership, and he has exemplified dedication and service in all his endeavors, according to a statement. He has played a number of roles in education, including teaching at Perry High School and being the principal at St. Patrick Catholic School before becoming the director of the VanKirk Career Academy in 2018.

“Eddie Diaz’s impact extends far beyond his official duties,” the statement said. “His commitment to community engagement, exemplified by initiatives such as the nationally recognized Teacher Paraprofessional Registered Apprenticeship program, concurrent enrollment partnerships with area high schools and workforce development initiatives with industry, has helped create many opportunities for students.”
