Mike went home to be with the Lord and savior and to be reunited with his mother and father Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at the Kings Garden Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, Iowa.

Eugene Michael “Mike” Powers was born Feb. 16, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Gene and Lois Ann (Steen) Powers.

He served in the U.S. Army for a short time and worked at Pittsburg Steel, Per Mar Security and Walmart.

Mike enjoyed martial arts, drawing and reading and studying his Bible.

He made it to the level of green belt with Kim’s Academy. A funny story is the lady from Home Depot who asked him what he was building because he kept buying wood, but he just liked to karate chop it and pretty much made firewood.

Mike is survived by his siblings, Bert and Kandy Powers, Evonne Brown, Debbie and Randy Hoyt, Sharon and Ed Streeter, Desiree and David Burrows, Ronald and Missy Griffey and Rhonda and Mike Schuling; his step-dad, Ronald Griffey I; and his son, Jason King.

Also special thanks to all the CNAs and nurses and staff at the Kings Garden Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes for helping him the last 10 years.

Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care is in charge of arrangements.
