Eva Carris, 92, of Perry died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the Irene Barbara Lunde Memorial Chapel at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 9 from 4-7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service in the Irene Barbara Lunde Memorial Chapel.

Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry. Memorials may be given to Rowley Masonic Community or the Gideons and may be left at the Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Eva Mae Carris was born Sept. 8, 1923, at Garden City, Kan., to John Chester and Avis Algivia (Knapp) Green.

Her family moved to Iowa when she was about 1 year old.

She started school at the John Payne Country School in Fremont County. In the sixth grade she began attending school in Hamburg, Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1940.

She met Vernon Webster Carris and they were married May 6, 1942, at her brother Roy’s house in Missouri across the border from Hamburg.

Eva worked at the Perry Manor from 1966 until 1979. She then took a CNA course and worked at the Dallas County Hospital for six years, retiring at the age of 62.

Eva was a member of the New Day Assembly of God and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and embroidery work. She loved to have family gatherings and was very giving of herself to others.

Eva was preceded in death by parents, John and Avis Green; husband, Vernon Webster Carris; daughters, Janet Hokel and Rebecca Ann in infancy; five brothers, Roy, Orville, Robert, Clyde and Ralph; two sisters, Leona and June McNew; and a son-in-law, Miles Riedesel.

Survivors include her daughters, Neta (Nathan) Tosten of Ames, Verna (Dean) Esbeck of Atlantic and Patience Riedesel of Marshalltown; a son, Marcus (Mary) Carris Perry; grandchildren, Katherine (Guy) Somers, Todd (Amy) Esbeck, Jill (Joe) Irlmeier, Scott Esbeck, Christina (Kirk) Scheckel, Erik (Andrea) Tosten, Julie Tosten, Shantry and Rachel Riedesel and Emily, Joshua (Mary) and Benjamin Carris; great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Justin, Nadia and Alexander “Lex” Somers, Gwendolyn and Luke Irlmeirer, Madeline, Jonathan and Grace Eva Scheckel, Briella and Mya Esbeck and Tate Carris; step great-grandchildren, Dashon Moore-Guidry and Gabriel Estrada; a sister, Fern Ottmann of Hamburg; a sister-in-law, Alyce Rogers of Springfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
