The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a flash flood watch until Wednesday morning for the Perry area and all of central and eastern Iowa.
Tropical moisture will spread northward into central and eastern Iowa Tuesday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rainfall of two to four inches possible. Rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour at times might lead to flash flooding.
The heavy rainfall might also lead to longer-term river flooding into the latter half of the week. Flooding is forecast in low-lying or poorly drained areas and potentially dangerous flash flooding on smaller creeks and streams. Significant rises on larger streams and rivers will also be possible.
Along with Dallas County, flash flooding is a risk in Boone, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Tama, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, Winnebago, Worth, Wright, Black Hawk, Bremer, Appanoose, Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Warren, Wayne, Davis and Wapello counties.
