DES MOINES, Iowa — Alleged lies told under oath by a former Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) case worker led to a couple losing parental rights to their four minor children.

Chelsie Jo Gray, 30, of Lawler, Iowa, a former Social Work II case manager with the DHS, was arrested Monday and charged in Cerro Gordo County with three counts of perjury.

Gray’s arrest is related to testimony she provided in a termination of parental rights (TPR) hearing Cerro Gordo County in December 2017. As a result of Gray’s testimony, the DHS terminated the parental rights of the biolgocal parents of four minor children.

According to criminal complaints signed Monday by Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent Scott Reger, Gray allegedly perjured herself when she claimed she saw the children monthly in their foster home, when she claimed she conversed with the children’s teachers and when she claimed to have tried to place all four children in one home.

Gray was held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail until posting a $15,000 bond Tuesday. She is scheduled for an April 15 appearance in Cerro Gordo District Court.

The investigation was conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The Hancock County Attorney’s office is acting as special prosecutor in the case at the request of the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s office.
